Arthuriana: Arthurian Legends for a New Age

Told through a frame of intense personal tragedy, Lerner and Loewe’s classic Camelot is deceptively romantic while packing a politically relevant punch. With original play Arthuriana, Magpie capitalized on this potent balance by delving deeper into the source material, exploring more legends and figures that spoke to us across time.

Through our unique devising process, we invited these iconic characters into the room with us, working together to craft a series of experimental new works that together with Camelot demonstrated how theatre can evolve to reflect our communities and address contemporary issues in ways that speak to all audiences. Destiny, purity, and Queer longing were woven into a series of physical theatre vignettes following Galahad, Mordred, the Fisher King, the Lady of Shalott, and the enigmatic White Hart.
