Invite Fable into your home!
Based on our 2024 one-night-only immersive experience, this "campfire style" storytelling experience draws on WB Yeats and Michio Ito's "Drawing Room Theatre," current "DIY" trends, and ancient caroling/koliada traditions for a show that can be performed anywhere from a living room for 5 people to a hotel lobby for 30.
About the Show
FAQ
How long is the show?
Each performance lasts 45-70 minutes, depending upon many factors. Length may be affected by the amount of audience interaction, so we anticipate slightly longer runtimes at venues with larger capacity.
What types of venues can Fable perform in?
Anywhere!
FABLE is designed to be performed in unusual spaces, and to bring the performing arts to everyone. We can perform in apartments, backyards, lobbies, and public spaces - wherever you’d like to host us. We only require enough space for 3 performers and 5 audience members, minimum.
Do we pay you, or do you pay us?
Neither! Thanks to our 4Culture grant funding, Fable is generally performed at no cost to audiences. Tickets are free, reserved via Ticket Tailor. Use of a venue is considered an in-kind donation, and hosts receive a tax deduction based on the size of the venue.
If certain circumstances require you to charge a traditional ticket fee, we can discuss pricing, and proceeds will be split 50/50 between Magpie and the venue/host. However, to align with Magpie’s mission, comp’d/PWYW tickets must be available for low-income audience members. We may turn down an offer to host based on proposed ticketing prices.
Can Fable visit locations outside Seattle?
Absolutely! We’re happy to visit you anywhere in Washington State, and nearby locations in Oregon and Idaho.
If you would like to invite Fable to perform outside of the Seattle Area/the Eastside, we ask that you give us as much advance notice as possible. We have a limited yearly budget for touring and shows are booked on a rolling basis, so please reach out as soon as you can and we’ll begin planning accordingly.
For locations more than one day’s train/car journey from Seattle, we may require financial assistance to get the cast and crew there and back. This can be discussed in detail with the managing director when you submit your Host Sign-Up Form.
What kinds of performances are part of a show?
Performances may include traditional storytelling, dance, singing, divination, and other surprises. Improvised audience interactions are a major part as well.
The exact program is determined by venue capacity and performer availability; the show is different every time.
Are food and drink involved?
Magpie does not provide food and drink for the audience, and the venue is not expected to.
If your venue is a restaurant or you would like to provide food or drink, please mention it in the Host Sign-Up Form.
Can I request specific characters or stories?
Hosts are welcome to request their favorite characters from the land of Fable! We’ll do our best to accommodate. However, we cannot guarantee specific performers’ availability, and part of the beauty of the show is that you never know who - or what - will come to visit...
I have other questions!
We encourage everyone who’s interested in hosting to fill out the Host Sign-Up Form (including the question field at the end) so we can get a full idea of the details of your venue. This helps us answer any questions thoroughly and accurately. If you would prefer, you can also email us at magpieartistsensemble@gmail.com.
We encourage potential hosts to reach out as far in advance as possible to ensure performer availability.
